Internet censorship - All AUSTRALIANS read this.

The Federal Government has now set its sights on gamers, promising to use its internet censorship regime to block websites hosting and selling video games that are not suitable for 15 year olds.

There is going to be a lot of Angry WoW fans out there.

Quote
Such as those with excessive violence or sexual content - are simply banned from sale by the Classification Board, unless they are modified to remove the offending content.
This just has MO written all over it.

I don't know why they just don't just make a R18+ classification for games then we wouldn't really have this problem about them blocking out games.

Quote
"Far from being the ultimate weapon against child abuse, it now will officially censor content deemed too controversial for a 15-year-old. In a free country like ours, do we really need the government to step in and save us from racy web games?"

No we dam don't need them to filter out crap for "kids" its the parent responsibility to stop there kids from viewing such content they shouldent screw everyone else over its just unfair and dam out right wrong....

If this is in the wrong spot please move it

*Sighs sadly*

Yeah, I know all about Rudd and Conroy's oh so precious internet filter. Absolute load of bullshit...I can't believe they're wasting millions of dollars on a crappy filter that WILL NOT EVEN WORK AND CAN BE BYPASSED BY A FUCKING TEN YEAR OLD - not to mention slow down our internet speeds - and they've cut the police's funding for internet crime...you know...the people who actually work on tracking down the sick bastards behind all the kiddie porn and thereby cutting it off at the source.

Now our entire country has to suffer for our government's incompetence and the few negligent parents who can't be fucked taking responsibility and just talking to their kids! But it's ok because they're PROTECTING THE CHILDREN!!!...even though a blanket filter won't make the bad guys go away...

The bill hasn't been passed yet...so we can only hope there's enough opposition to stop this from happening.

I'd say there is Mahlron, and just for reference about the entire internet filter they were pondering about, a 14 year old had a Firefox add-on within 32 hours that bypassed it.

Let me just say right now that I almost guarantee that it'll be easier to get around the government-implemented filter than, say, the DET's filter stopping kids from getting to facebook at school.

I've been going to protests and stuff about the filter scheme for a while now.

tl;dr we keep playing what we want, the pedophiles keep pedophilin', and everyone has to suffer slow internet and technological incompetence at the highest levels of government.

LOL, well I for one will be installing that add-on.  ;)  Shows how bogus this whole thing is...

Right on, Star. Let's just hope they drop the whole thing when Conroy's exposed as the slimey moron he is. What offends me the most is how the government subtly tries to imply that opposing the filter means we support things like kiddie porn. They hide behind the whole "protecting the children" arguement, when all they really want is power over what we can and can't view. Where will it end?

Yeah, they're trying to protect the games under 15, while the average age for an Australian gamer is like 35+ or something. So ugh, sorry guys.  :D

I find it hard to believe that Conroy's baby is still on the cards, especially after the blacklist leak which showed just how politically motivated it was.

My isp (IInet) already bailed on the trials and basically spread word to customers that it was horribly managed and they wanted no part of it.

Doesn't really matter anyways. You can bypass it with a VPN or even a damn proxy server FFS, what a waste of my money.

In an ideal world, the public would be able to veto the goddamn stupid shit that comes out of politicians' minds before they got to waste our tax dollars.

We shouldn't have to bypass anything.

Pretty soon we are going to be living in the worlds biggest nanny state and you can blame all the people who keep rolling over on such massive issues without even so much as 5 minutes of thought going into it at all. Thats the real problem with Australia, nobody gives a flying fuck about politics until its to late.

How many times has a government tried to put something through under the guise that it will make the world a safer place? Guess what! The world isn't a safe place, I could walk out my front door tomorrow and get hit by a fucking bus.

This government is so out of touch with reality its a joke.
